A wee bit about Glasgow
- The host: Glasgow becomes the third city to host the Games twice, after Auckland and Edinburgh.
- The venue: Scotstoun Stadium, fresh new track laid summer 2025, capacity around 11,000, intimate and loud.
- The opener: First indoor Opening Ceremony in Games history, at the OVO Hydro.
- The crowd: 500,000 tickets across 11 days, packed into an 8-mile corridor across the city.
- The throwback: The Commonwealth Mile returns to the track for the first time since 1966.
- The local lingo: “Pure dead brilliant” means amazing, “haud yer wheesht” means be quiet, and a “bevvy” is a drink. You'll hear all three in Glasgow.
The drama: Canada was initially disqualified for a lane infringement moments after crossing the line, then reinstated on appeal by Athletics Canada after review of the video evidence. Silver stands.
